"for Lost Souls"

Still drunk
I pressed my face in
delivered my worried tongue
upon your open neck.

I wanted you:
to eat
away
at this skin,
at the bedding,
to rummage
through
the liquor cabinet
of my lips,
hurt your hands
trying to break through
to my spine.

I wanted you,
and you
knew I expected great things,
like the sun
never wanted to come up.
Would rather touch
the horizon
tentative
as if hatching
and stumbling
in retreat
to the darkness.

Now, the two of us are standing
here. You will
or you won’t face me,
cure me of this
nothing,
I feel without you.

I wanted to be
your
obituary.
